Writers Roundtable – March 2021

Writers Roundtable

(A monthly, informal discussion where we talk about topics relevant to today’s working author.)

Tuesday, March 9, 2021 from 6-7:30PM

“Doubles Partners: the Editor and Writer as a Creative Team”

Join award-winning writer and editor Greg Blake Miller for a discussion

of the art of editing, being edited, and the nature of editing

as a mutual creative process. This is a look inside the exhilarating process

of developmental editing, in which a story is not just “fixed”

but rather organically developed through conversation and exploration.

In such a relationship, both the editor and the writer learn and grow,

sharpening the gifts of the author and the needs of the project.

This will be a virtual meeting via Zoom.

The meeting invite will be sent out to current WSN Members,
but posted here the day of for guests or prospective members.

Topic: “The World And You”

Join us for our next Virtual Roundtable in conjunction with Olympian Creative.

This month, we’ll discuss techniques for weaving your personal story with the public story of your times. Each of us lives in the world and is shaped by its complexities; in turn, we act in the world and help change it in subtle ways. This interaction is a rich vein for creative writing that is at once personal and public. Feel free to bring examples from your favorite authors or from your own work. The Roundtable is an excellent opportunity to discuss both the craft and the deeper themes of creative work in a complex world. Olympian Creative director and UNLV writing professor Greg Blake Miller will host the session. We look forward to seeing you!

June Roundtable

June’s Writer’s Roundtable is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 6 at the Paseo Verde Library’s Coffee Press cafe.

This month’s lead-off topic is “Contracts, Contracts, Contracts! (and Legal Terms Every Writer Should Ask About)”

WSN President Eric James Miller will discuss the different types of contracts and legal terms every working writer should be familiar with. This discussion promises to be informative, but informal. Everyone will have the chance to share their experiences and ask questions about the business aspects of being a working writer.  As always, the conversation is likely to morph and evolve in different directions depending on what everyone brings to the table with their cup of joe, latte, or tea.

Free for WSN members, $5 for guests.

(if you have a subject you’d like to suggest for an upcoming Roundtable, please send it to nevadawriters (at) gmail (dot) com with the Subject “Roundtable Topic”)
