Writers Roundtable – June 2020

Writers Roundtable

Tuesday, June 9th, 2020

from 6-7:15 PM

VIRTUAL ZOOM MEETING (in 2-parts)

Meeting ID: 791 1102 5539
Password: 8c38ug

(if you did not receive the dial-in instructions but would like to join us, contact us and we will be happy to send them to you)

Topic: “The World And You”

Join us for our next Virtual Roundtable in conjunction with Olympian Creative.

This month, we’ll discuss techniques for weaving your personal story with the public story of your times. Each of us lives in the world and is shaped by its complexities; in turn, we act in the world and help change it in subtle ways. This interaction is a rich vein for creative writing that is at once personal and public. Feel free to bring examples from your favorite authors or from your own work. The Roundtable is an excellent opportunity to discuss both the craft and the deeper themes of creative work in a complex world. Olympian Creative director and UNLV writing professor Greg Blake Miller will host the session. We look forward to seeing you!

Author’s Roundtable

Join us for WSN's exciting new Roundtable Series - an open forum for authors to discuss ideas.

Next Roundtable: 6:30 p.m. April 5, 2016
at Paseo Verde Library (280 S. Green Valley Parkway, Henderson)

As a new benefit of WSN membership, we've started our new Writers' Roundtable,
a forum for lively, casual discussion of the craft.
Each month, we gather over coffee to take on a theme related to the challenges,
opportunities and responsibilities of the working writer.

Our next Roundtable, will take on the question of how we use memory in our fiction and nonfiction.
"Memory Architecture: Using personal recollection to build stories bigger than ourselves"
- How do we "give" personal recollections to our characters without turning them into mouthpieces
    or stand-ins for ourselves?
- How can we use our memories of real-world places to create fictional worlds?
- And how can memory play a helpful illustrative role in narrative journalism?

WSN board member and UNLV writing instructor Greg Miller will host the conversation,
but this is a chance for all of us to learn from one another.
We'll also play a fun game that challenges us to use our memories in unexpected ways,
so try to arrive with a few specific memories to discuss.

Though the Roundtable is intended specifically for WSN Members,
each WSN member may invite one guest, so we're looking forward to seeing old friends and new!
