WSN Writers Roundtable

WSN’s Writers Roundtable is an Open Forum Discussion Group for working writers

to discuss craft, publishing trends, business issues, or simply get advice from other working writers.

This month’s topic: Home

Is “home” a house, a city, a country, a state of mind? What does it mean to long for home, to return home, to never leave it? How do we bring freshness and even strangeness to the most familiar of places?

We’ll also examine how time changes the meaning of “Home” for us and the characters we create.

Feel free to bring examples from your own work and that of your favorite authors. Join your fellow writers for this fun, casual event, hosted by UNLV narrative media professor Greg Blake Miller.

(If you have a question or topic you would like to discuss,

send it to Greg Blake Miller at nevadawriters (at) gmail (dot) com.)

Writers Roundtable

Join us for the next WSN Roundtable from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, at The Coffee Press inside Henderson’s Paseo Verde Library.
This month’s topic is “Bringing Life (and Lives) to the Page: The Joy and Challenge of Creating Memorable Characters.”
WSN board member and UNLV writing instructor Greg Blake Miller (OlympianCreative.com) will host the discussion, focusing on the attention to detail, contextual understanding and empathy that go into bringing unforgettable characters to life in your work, whether fiction or nonfiction.
We’ll look at examples from Vladimir Nabokov, Joan Didion and Joseph Mitchell; feel free to bring excerpts in which your own favorite authors develop characters.
This casual, interactive session will also address the ways that character-creation is a great growth experience for authors themselves, an exercise in empathy that provides fresh energy and perspectives.
Have you been wrestling with a writing/creativtiy/business question you’d like to have discussed at an upcoming Roundtable? Send it to nevadawriters (at) gmail (dot) com  and state whether you would like to be the discussion moderator, or have someone else moderate.
(WSN’s Writers Roundtables are intended for WSN Members but we welcome visitors interested in joining our community of working writers.)
