This is a virtual writing workshop and discussion about writing about different places in space and time co-sponsored by Writers of Southern Nevada and Olympian Creative. Relative to historical fiction and non-fiction writers, authors of sci-fi and fantasy, as well as romance authors and authors who have characters who wish they were somewhere other than they are, or are exploring aspects of a post-pandemic world where “anywhere but here” might not be as easy to get to anymore.
Join us for our monthly discussion where we talk about topics relevant to today’s working author. This month’s topic is “The Art and Anxiety of the First Page” and will be moderated by Greg Blake Miller of Olympian Creative. We’ll discuss these dual points of entry for our first pages, from the choice of narrative moments to the development of voice, and how the notion of “beginning” changes between the first words we write and the first words our readers read.
