One of the rules I always break is the “use proper grammar.” It drives the SpellCheck crazy, but it is very important to use a character’s voice and often that character does not use proper grammar. You don’t want to make them sound like a college professor if that isn’t the way they speak. Also, the use of many incomplete sentences is an excellent writer’s tool. You’ve given me food for thought. I’m sure I break lots of rules when I write.
